Microsoft is redrawing its Data & AI partner program. Here is what changes for buyers.

Dallas, TXSeptember 10, 2026MVSS365

Microsoft has folded three Azure solution paths into one Cloud & AI Platforms designation, rewritten its certifications around AI agents, and moved co-sell to the Marketplace. Xcelocloud, a Solutions Partner for Data & AI, reads the signals.

Microsoft has spent 2026 reshaping what it expects a Data & AI partner to be. Xcelocloud tracks these changes as a Microsoft Solutions Partner for Data & AI, and four of them matter to anyone planning data and AI spend this year.

One designation instead of three

The Data & AI, Digital & App Innovation and Infrastructure solution paths now sit under a single badge: Solutions Partner for Cloud & AI Platforms. The requirements did not loosen. The framing changed: Microsoft treats data, the applications on top of it and the infrastructure beneath as one AI platform. Buyers should plan the same way. The analytics estate, the apps and the infrastructure are increasingly one decision.

Certifications now test for agents in production

The Azure Developer certification has been retired in favor of an Azure AI Cloud Developer credential. A GitHub Agentic AI Developer certification joins the path, alongside data-plus-AI credentials such as SQL AI Developer. A credible partner is now expected to build and operate AI agents and AI-infused applications, not only stand up a data warehouse. Ask any partner what its team is certified to do with agents and models in production.

Specializations are consolidating and will be audited

Overlapping analytics specializations have merged into a single Analytics on Microsoft Azure specialization built around Fabric, Databricks and Power BI. Validation is moving toward recurring, independent third-party audits, starting with security and a new agentic-security specialization in design. A specialization is becoming a stronger signal of audited capability rather than a point total.

Buying and co-sell move to the Marketplace

Partner co-sell and incentives are being routed through the commercial Marketplace, and ISV and co-sell programs are consolidating into one Marketplace-centered motion. Expect more data and AI services and software to transact there, which can simplify procurement and unlock committed-spend benefits when an engagement is structured for it. Ask how a partner transacts, not only what it builds.

Where Xcelocloud fits

Xcelocloud builds its Data & AI practice to the new bar, from managed data and AI operations to advisory and project work, and recently earned Microsoft's Data & AI designation on that basis. A follow-up article will cover what the designation means for partners and their customers.
